WHAT IF I HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES?
Papalote Salsa does not contain nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, soy, fish, or shellfish. However Papalote Salsa is produced in a facility where these ingredients are present.
WHERE IS THE EXPIRATION DATE?
Although we do not put a straight forward expiration date on the jar there is a way you can find out what the expiration date is. Look the upper part of the jar, also known as the shoulder, you’ll see a printed code on the glass made up of a combination of letters and numbers. The one I’m looking at has the following code: S532600-4
The breakdown of this particular code (S532600-4) is:
S; Sonoma Specialty Foods, the kitchens where we make Papalote Salsa
5; For the last digit of the year this particular batch was made (2015)
326; For the day of the year this batch was made in expressed in the Julian calendar (day 326 of 365)
00; For the last two digits of the UPC code
-4; For the batch number
So, all we need to know from this code is that the product was made on the 326th day of 2015 (November 22, 2015-note that), and the shelf life of the product is two years from this date. Once you open it, however, you need to keep it refrigerated and you can expect it to be fresh for two weeks.
IMPORTANT: As with any tomato product, if you see bubbles starting to form you should definitely dispose of the product, as bubbles indicate that the process of fermentation has begun. Bubbles means troubles! Also, if you see any evidence of mold you should dispose of the product as well.
